Hypocrisy in our modern culture...

I was just watching a rerun of Saturday Night Live featuring Lindsay Lohan, who at the time was still 17 years old. She is very hot. They did a skit about Harry Potter where she plays the young girl that is part of Harry's little group except the theme of this skit is how she has "grown" over the summer. The skit revolves around her large breasts (which they show alot of cleavage). I was asking God why he makes men lust after such hot young women when men can't have them. Then I thought how in a different time men married women much younger than that. That is when it occurred to me that with all the porn around, the times when men could marry 13 year old women were probably much more moralistic times than now when it is considered immoral and illegal to have sex with a teen female. I am not advocating sex with teens, merely stating the irony of it all. These are hypocritical times we live in.

They always have been. But I think we raise our kids more slowly than we centuries ago. I guess that is because we live longer. I have the theory that it is illegal for old people to sexually pursue young people because we want them to become something other than sexual objects. I am not a feminist by any stretch, but the simple fact is that we need women with careers, even if it is just filing paperwork. Allowing older men to take 17 year old wives would decimate a good percentage of the necessary work force. However, it is a biological fact that 17 year olds can look damn good, and aside from putting them in a burkah, I don't think they can avoid being looked at lustfully. Anyway, I love your blog, and I will keep visiting.

Zelda, I agree about waiting, I mean my daughter is 14 yrs old and I don't want her to get married anytime soon. And I understand that in previous times, women married young because they were another mouth to feed on the farm that didn't help produce the food so marry them off and they will produce sons that will produce on the farm. That is not sexist, just fact. But times have changed. But as a man, it is very difficult to NOT look at Lindsay Lohan when she is dressing the way she is. It creates internal shame and embarrasment to want to look at the teen dressed so hot and yet remember she could be my daughter. I think what I was alluding to was that in times past a 15 yr old girl would not be dressed so as to seduce a man, yet now we have a culture where they wear less and less and yet it is wrong for a NORMAL man to look at one. As I said, I have a 14 yr old daughter that is well endowed and do I want a guy my age ogling her? of course not. But society has created that double standard.

I give men enough credit for self-control. Look, don't touch. I mean if there was a guy who was 17, ripped in a muscle shirt, I would have a hard time keeping my eyes off, but he would definitely be a line I wouldn't cross (at least for a year :-)

Zelda, you are right, most men do have the self control. but you read the news, everywheres young women are taken a brutalized. That girl in Minnesota that was found in N.Dakota and now that one in Oregon. It is NOT the womans fault and I wan't to be very clear on that. It is people out there that cannot control themselves. But our society has made it ok to promote that which is within all of us, the instinct to pro-create. But as humans witht the ability to reason there are rules put upon it. It is a constant battle for people to control their natural animal instincts within a structured society. Some cannot do it. Those are the ones I worry about whenever my daughter goes out into the world.
