Why does he think he has the right to consider Mr. Johnson a friend?

The New York Times > International > Middle East > Acting on Threat, Saudi Group Kills Captive American: "'The murder of Paul shows the evil nature of the enemy we face,'"
By calling this man by his first name, Bush is insulting the man. First names are reserved for friends, relatives, and aquaintenences (?). How dare he insult this man and what happened to him in this manner!

I'm sorry to disagree with you, but I don't think that was an insult. I think he was trying to convey the message that this person was known by that name to people who loved him. I've heard police officers do that when they speak of murder victims or missing persons. The real insult to Mr. Johnson, and all Americans, was delivered by the human sludge who beheaded him.

We are all entitled to our opinion, but I know I don't like it when a clerk at the store or bank calls me by my first name. I just feel it is a courtesy to call someone by their proper title in certain situations. Each to their own.

I don't like it when a clerk or or a salesperson calls me by my first name, but if I were beheaded by psycopathic terrorists, I wouldn't mind if the President (Republican or Democrat) used my first name to invoke the humanity I had been so brutally deprived of. That's just me though. I definitely respect differing opinions.
